Saturday in the Park

There is always something going on in Shanghai.  We decided to pass on watching a Rugby game and instead chose to explore the city.  Jason and I haven’t really seen much of Shanghai, so we were excited to get out!  My Saturday morning started with getting my permeant visa!  Luckily, I didn’t have to do much for this, and  it was just like a trip to the DMV, take a number and wait.   The whole process took about an hour!  For some reason Jason did not have to go so when I got back home we biked to get some coffee and breakfast.  My whole plan after these excursions (since it was just 12:00)  was to take a nap, but instead I laid on the couch and Skyped with Julia and my parents!  So no nap for me!

Jason and I decided to find and explore Fuxing Park.  To get there we took the Subway, which is something we need to do more often, and after about a 5 min walk we found the park!   The park is a beautiful oasis in the city.   There was a large field in the middle of the park where people were playing Football, kids blowing bubbles, and others flying kites.  We walked around the outside of the field to see all the sights, when we heard some music.  Sure enough about 5 older Chinese men were playing saxophones!  People were crowded around listening others were dancing!  Good time!  The park was beautiful!  There is a rose garden, children’s amusement park with bumper cars and arts and crafts.  As we walked through the park we also saw a lot of gambling and discussions!

Since we were in the French Concession we decided to explore some more!  After a yummy lunch at Boxing Cat Brewery, we decided to find the place known as Ting zai fan!  I was shown this place during teacher orientation and was excited to go back.  It’s basically a tourist trap; however it’s fun to see.  It’s several little shops located in back alley ways!  It seemed like all the shops are the same, but it was fun to browse!  Both of us didn’t have much cash, which was probably good since we didn’t buy much!

After we got lost in the tiny streets we found a way out and decided we should try to find the Catholic Church near by.  Since it was close to 5, we thought we should take a cab!  The church was very close by and we had passed it on our way to the Park.

After the day, we were exhausted!  Saturday evening was spent with friends, beer, and games!
